On 10 July evening, Moments of China - young after a hundred years was on CCTV-1. Chen Qingman from Rugao told the ‘polar expedition story’ of ‘Xue Long 2”, which is the first polar scientific expedition icebreaker built by our state.
‘Xue Long 2’ is the first polar scientific expedition icebreaker in the world which is equipped with ship head and stern dual direction ice breaking technology. It can sail and break ice continuously in 1.5 m thick ice environment.
Moments of China is a new media convergence programme released by CCTV-1 at the start of 2019.
The main character of this episode of the program Chen Qingman, is the director of lab of ‘Xue Long 2’ expedition ship in Polar Research Institute of China. He is from Rugao, Nantong. On 6 May, after more than 5 months of test in polar region, ‘Xue Long 2’ completed its 37th south pole scientific expedition task successfully, returned to China, berthed at the port of the base of Polar Research Institute of China.
Chen Qingman who was born in 1987, graduated from marine biology master course of Shanghai Ocean University in July 2012. In the same month of that year, he participated in the 5th north pole scientific expedition of China. He said that people who studied marine course all had a yearning for south pole and north pole.
In October 2019, ‘Xue Long 2’ went to the south pole for the first time, which started the new time of ‘two Long’s polar expedition’. What impressed Chen Qingman is that at 7 pm on 31 December 2019, president Xi Jinping delivered 2020 New Year greetings by China Media Group and internet, mentioned the first trip of ‘Xue Long 2’ to the south pole.
In the past few years, Chen Qingman as one member of the scientific research team, followed ‘Xue Long 2’ in the 34th, 36th, and 37th south pole scientific expedition task of China.
