n 15 July morning, Haitai cross Yangtze River tunnel geotechnical investigation on water project was started officially. It is the most complex on water geotechnical investigation work in the Yangtze River Nantong section. It is also the investigation project of the most technical content in bridge and tunnel geotechnical investigation history in the world. It will create a new record of most bore holes and longest construction period in the history of geotechnical investigation on water of the Yangtze River.

Haitai cross Yangtze River tunnel which will be built is located at about 8 km downstream of Sutong Changjiang highway bridge. The road is connected with Tongxi expressway, the Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway and Huwu expressway. After the project is completed, traffic barriers between the south bank and north bank of the Yangtze River will be broken and traffic pressure of Sutong Changjiang highway bridge will be eased. The railway connects Rudong, Nantong, Suzhou and Huzhou. It is a controlling node project of Rudong-Nantong-Suzhou-Huzhou intercity rail.
