on the evening of 28th November, when Doctor Du Boxiang, the leader of the 20th Chinese (Jiangsu) Medical Aid Team to Guyana, Deputy Director of the Anesthesiology Department and Chief Physician of Nantong First People’s Hospital, returned to the base after a day’s work, he suddenly received an emergency call from Doctor Robertson of the Department of Anaesthesia, Georgetown Public Hospital. In the call, he was told that a woman in labor urgently needed an epidural for labor analgesia, but the technology was not a daily project in the local area, the support from the Chinese Medical Team was urgently needed.
Knowing the conditions of the pregnant woman, Du Boxiang carried an electronic analgesia pump which was brought from China, and drove to the Maternity Center. After he arrived, he quickly started talking to Dr. Robertson. With rich clinical experience, he quickly determined the local anesthetic solution formula, and guided Dr. Robertson to complete the epidural catheter placement. Next, Dr. Du Boxiang explained in detail to Dr. Robertson how to use the electronic analgesia pump made in China for labor analgesia.
When Dr. Robertson learnt that the small portable electronic analgesia pump has powerful functions such as setting loading dose, maintaining dose, additional dose and patient-controlled analgesia time, he couldn't help but praise it, and exclaimed sincerely, ‘made in China, amazing!’
As the local anesthetic solution was slowly injected into the epidural space of the woman in labour through an electronic pump, the effect was immediate and the patient's originally painful face gradually eased.
After about 7 hours of labor, the mother successfully delivered her baby.
