On 10 December, while fishermen of Su Qi Yu 19065 were sorting fishing catch, they discovered Acipenser sinensis again. The captain, Huang Chen, released it without hesitation. It was the 3rd time the ship released Acipenser sinensis this year. Since December, fishermen of Jinhai town,Qidong have caught 8 Acipenser sinensis by accident. They reported at once and released them to the sea.
Acipenser sinensis is a type of ocean and river migratory fish. It is a precious and old fish species only in our country. It used to live in the same period as the dinosaurs. And it is called ‘living fossil of aquatic life’. Since 1988, acipenser sinensis has been listed as national protected animal of the first class. It is called ‘panda in water’.
Doctor Feng Guangpeng from East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences thought that fishing ban in the Yangtze River and fishing suspension of East China Sea provided a lot of rehabilitation time and space for Acipenser sinensis. In the past few years, the scale of breeding and release was gradually increased, which also made habitation and growth of acipenser sinensis better.
Huang Chen is more than 50 years old. He has fished on the sea for more than 20 years. He said, ‘the dense appearance of Acipenser sinensis this year, is the achievements of training of protection of rare animals from the government.’
