The reporter learnt from municipal natural resources and planning bureau that according to previous research and monitoring record, there are more than 340 wild bird species in Nantong, involving 54 families and 17 orders. As ecological environment is getting better and better, the ‘friend circle’ of birds in Nantong is expanding continuously.
The more than 340 species of wild bird include national grade one protected birds such as spoon-billed sandpiper and black-faced spoonbill, national grade two protected birds such as mandarin duck, cotton teal, and goshawk, and birds included in national ‘San You’ protected wild animal list such as black-billed magpie, hoopoe, blackbird and common moorhen.
