On 17 May, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University became ‘China Hematopoietic Stem Cell Volunteer Database Jiangsu branch designated collection hospital’ officially. Nantong also became the 8th city with Hematopoietic Stem Cell collection points in Jiangsu.
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is an important measure to treat Malignant leukemia in our country. As people’s ideas are changing, more and more people join those who donate hematopoietic stem cells. At 8:30 am, Chen Weiguan, associate chief physician of department of rehabilitation medicine of Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, as a volunteer of the Red Cross, accepted hematopoietic stem cell collection in the hospital. It was the first time to carry out hematopoietic stem cell collection work in Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University after it became the first non-related hematopoietic stem cell collection hospital in our city.
After 5 hours of collection, Chen Weiguan donated 360 ml of hematopoietic stem cell suspension successfully, which sent hope of life to a 32-year-old female Leukemia patient far away.
