on 20 July, after the video of Xu Hui, 62-year-old project manger of Tongzhou Construction General Contracting Group who helped people bravely was published online, many netizens spontaneously mourned the mortal hero.

At about 12 o’clock of 19 July, Xu Hui, who was taking a walk by Huangshui River, Xining, Qinghai Province, suddenly heard ‘thump thump’ sound from the water channel, after careful search, he found a female drowning person. Xu Hui jumped into water without a second thought. In the dangerous moment, Xu Hui held the drowning person tightly with one hand, and grabbed a tree branch which bent to the river with the other hand, tried to support the drowning person to the bank, but due to the long time, he was severely exhausted, did not save the drowning person, and himself was carried away by fast-moving water and was missing.

After the accident happened, professional rescue team worked the whole night, made every effort to save, went into water to search over and over. Finally at 0:24 of 20 July, by the generator set impeller which was more than 10 meters deep, Xu Hui’s corpse was discovered.

‘He did not know the drowning person, but gave a hand without hesitation. We shall learn from him.’ Xu Hui’s active moved everyone on the site who participated the rescue.
