On 24 August, General Administration of Customs published announcement that import of aquatic products (including consumable aquatic animals) whose country of origin is Japan was stopped from the day.
Can we still eat imported seafood? How is the import condition of Japanese seafood in Nantong?
At 11 am on 25 August, the reporter followed officers of Chongchuan Administration for Market Regulation to ‘Seafood No.1 Seafood Dou Lao hotpot’ restaurant near Zhaohui Huayuan, Duanjiaba.
The person in charge of the restaurant said that there were more than 20 species of seafood in the restaurant, mainly from 14 countries such as China, Norway, Russia, and Canada, there was no imported seafood from Japan.
Sushi Sakura, the Japanese restaurant by the east gate of Jiu Qu Hua Street, imports seafood products from places all over the world for years. On the site, the officers checked the lately purchase sales orders in the shop, and did not find record of importing Japanese seafood products. ‘From July, our upstream suppliers had stopped to import all Japanese seafood products.’ Wang Yi, the chef said that they were looking for relevant substitutes in the present.
Ji Si, director of food supervision department of Chongchuan Administration for Market Regulation said that in the present, seafood on Nantong market was mainly from Shanghai market or local wholesale market, seafood purchased from regular channels could be consumed at ease.
