A few days ago, National Health Commission made an announcement, awarded 30 groups including the 29th batch of Chinese medical team which aided Guinea ‘National Advanced Groups in Medical Aid to Foreign Countries’, and awarded 60 people including Zhao Xingshan the honorary titles of ‘National Advanced Individuals in Medical Aid to Foreign Countries’. Only 3 people in Jiangsu won the advanced individual awards. Qu Lishuai, a doctor in Nantong, is one of them.

Qu Lishuai is a chief physician in the department of Gastroenterology of Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University. He carried out foreign aid missions from 21st September 2021 to 3rd October 2022, and worked as the leader of the 31st Aid Zanzibar Medical Team. In the more than one year aiding Africa, Qu Lishuai led the medical team to complete the outpatient diagnosis and treatment of about 25 thousand people. The number of inpatients was about 13 thousand. 3213 various types of surgeries including elective surgery and emergency operation were carried out. 513 critical ill patients were treated. The medical team’s work was highly recognized by China and Zanzibar governments. Mwinyi, the president of Zanzibar, met and conveyed greetings to the medical team for several times, and awarded Qu Lishuai the Presidential Medal and Certificate of Zanzibar.

During the period, supported by the medical technology center built by China, Qu Lishuai led the team to bring advanced medical ideas and technologies to Zanzibar, and formed a minimal invasive characteristic brand whose core is laparoscopic technology. Several surgeries made the first local cases.
