On 18th December, the opening ceremony of ‘Looking for “Lan Ruoruo”——Nantong Finless Porpoise Bay scientific research large-scale convergence media action’ jointly hosted by Nantong Daily Group and Nantong Suxitong Science and Technology Industrial Park was held.

The Yangtze finless porpoise which is called ‘smiling angel’ is National Class I Protected Wild Animal. It is an important indicator species of the ecological system of the Yangtze River.

The scientific research convergence media action invited the team led by professor Cui Weicheng, a well-known scientist, to provide technological support. By scientific observation and full media coverage on the biodiversity of the Nantong section of the Yangtze River, new suggestions and ideas about the formulation of the Great Protection of the Yangtze River plan in a more targeted manner were provided.

Professor Cui Weicheng is the ‘hero of manned deep sea diving’ of China, the first deputy chief designer of ‘Jiaolong’, and the director of the Deep-Sea Technology Research Center of Westlake University.

Since the start of this month, Cui Weicheng’s team has used detection equipment such as small unmanned boats and buoy devices to conduct continuous monitoring on the home range and activity rhythm of the Yangtze finless porpoise in Wushan Binjiang Area. Nantong Daily Group followed up the whole process and did full-media reporting. From 17th to 19th December, live broadcast in the day + ‘slow live broadcast’ at night was used, to transmit the scenes above water and under water at real time; at the same time, several guests including Cui Weicheng were invited to the studio, to share and popularize environmental protection knowledge, and to improve the public’s awareness of protection of ecology of the Yangtze River further.
