Indian crew member had sudden abdominal pain

Maritime department provided emergent rescue

At 14:30 on 19th December 2023, Nantong Rudong Maritime Department received from a shipping agency that on its Marshall Islands LNG ship ‘AAMIRA’, an Indian crew member had sudden abdominal pain, and needed to go ashore for medical treatment urgently. The ship was located about 60 nautical miles east to Yangkou Port. Influenced by the cold wave and strong wind, it could not berth at the LNG port.

After receiving the alarm, Nantong Rudong Maritime Department initiated the contingency plan immediately, and carried out rescue operation at once. ‘Yangkou Towboat 5’ stationed at Yangguang Island went in full speed, maritime workers boarded the ship for rescue. At the same time, assisting medical workers were consulted to provide remote guidance for emergency treatment, and coordinated the ambulance to go to the port on standby in advance.

After about 3 hours, ‘Yangkou Towboat 5’ docked with the foreign ship at about 5 nautical miles away from No.1 buoy of north entry channel of Yangkou Port, transferred the ill crew member successfully and returned at full speed. After appropriate emergency rescue treatment was applied, the abdominal pain of the crew member was alleviated to some extent. According to the follow-up, the sick patient has received surgery treatment from the hospital and his vital signs are currently stable.
