Based on innovation, the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry of Nantong has accelerated the pace of structural adjustment and development mode transformation, and has realized continuous and stable development. In 2023, 115 newly-built ships and marine engineering products were launched in the Nantong section of the Yangtze River. There was an increase of 27.8% compared with that of 2022, and above 25% high growth has been kept for two consecutive years. The cargo ship completion quantity exceeded 3.4 million DWT. The total value of newly-built ships and marine engineering products exceeded 30 billion yuan.

Shipbuilding and marine engineering is the landmark industry of Nantong. It is also a name card of Nantong. The shipbuilding scale of Nantong accounts for one tenth of that of China. The scale of marine engineering equipment manufacturing accounts for one fourth of that of China. The Pillars of a Great Power including self-propelled cutter dredger and flagship products such as N999, the largest natural gas treatment floating oil storage and unloading platform in the world, were delivered successively. In 2022, the ‘marine engineering equipment and high-tech ship cluster’ led by Nantong and participated by Taizhou and Yangzhou was awarded National Advanced Manufacturing Industry Cluster successfully.
