Recently, Nantong Bureau of Statistics published the main population data for year 2023. By the end of 2023, the resident population of Nantong is 7.7485 million, there is an increase of 5000 people compared with that of the end of previous year; the net inflow is 347.2 thousand, which increased by 179.8 thousand, 130.8 thousand, and 70.6 thousand respectively compared with the end of 2020, 2021, and 2022. The net inflow has been increasing year by year.

Population is the foundation of economic and social development. Population size is an important indicator of urban level. Data shows that the development of Nantong population has mainly three characters: the agglomeration effect of urban population in the downtown area is further evident, the urbanization rate is steadily increasing, and the quality of the population continues to improve.
