In memory of Slovenian legend Alma Karlin

Wang Huiqin Art Exhibition opened

By He Jiayu

On 13th May, ‘Link the world —— Wang Huiqin Art Exhibition’ by Wang Huiqin, a Nantong-born painter who lives in Slovenia, opened at Nantong Art Museum. H.E. Alenka Suhadolnik, Ambassador of Slovenia in China, and Mira Lesjak, the director of Consulate General of Slovenia in Shanghai attended the opening ceremony.

This year is the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Slovenia. Although Slovenia is thousands of miles from Nantong, the friendship has a long history. Wang Huiqin, who was born in Nantong and moved to Slovenia, is the best witness and promoter of the friendship between both parties. The life experiences across Asia and Europe shaped her unique art career. She created many excellent art works integrating China and Slovenia culture, and has worked on promotion of cultural and folk exchanges in a long term. As a visiting professor and part-time master’s supervisor of Nantong University, apart from tutoring students in art work creation, Wang Huiqin also participated in exhibition planning for the school, and promoted the school to build friendship and carry out inter-school cooperation with University of Ljubljana of Slovenia and University of Rijeka of Croatia.

Last June, Wang Huiqin held the first ‘link the world’ theme painting exhibition at Capital Library of China in Beijing. This exhibition is the second edition. It is also the first exhibition in her hometown of Nantong. The painting works exhibited this time depict the legendary trip of Alma Karlin, the Slovenian global female traveller, and integrate European and Chinese stories skillfully.
