Zhou Wenting, member of China Medical Aid Team to Malta:

Assist in building ‘a health bridge’

By Zong He

In the ‘Jing Yuan’ in Santa Lucija by the Mediterranean Sea, in front of the free medical consultation booth of China Medical Aid Team to Malta, Zhou Wenting, a teacher from Nantong Health College of Jiangsu Province, was explaining the theories of moxibustion to a white-haired old woman in fluent English. As a member of the 20th China Medical Aid Team to Malta, Zhou Wenting worked as an interpreter, publicity liaison, cultural ambassador, etc.

Zhou Wenting accompanied the leader of the medical team in the meeting with Marco Agius, Mayor of Cospicua, and facilitated the implementation of cooperation programs including free medical consultations, and health lectures with professional translation. Mayor Marco Agius praised her as ‘seamless communication, greatly enhanced mutual trust’. The meeting not only deepened mutual understanding and friendship, but also laid a good foundation for future promotion of traditional Chinese medicine culture in Malta and improvement of public health awareness.

In the free medical consultation in Santa Lucija, Zhou Wenting not only undertook the interpretation task, but also explained treatments including acupuncture and plaster to old people. By recording cases such as 79-year-old Chetina Bonici Livori trying acupuncture to treat rheumatism and 68-year-old Miriam Chutayal falling in love with acupuncture, the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine was presented in the view of patients.

From clinic account management to purchasing supplies for the base, from propaganda to communication and exchanges, Zhou Wenting efficiently coordinated daily work, to ensure that the medical team had no worries.
